Dear Mom, I Love You

Dear Mom,

Today is Mother’s Day and unfortunately needs to be spent in quarantine this year. Although we are all social/physical distancing at the moment, that doesn’t change the fact that today is your day.

You have supported me, guided me and always had my best interest in mind. Growing up, you allowed me to play recreational soccer every year, which is a sport I have always loved. You would drive me to my practices/games and be a stereotypical soccer mom. “GO GET THE BALL!” you would often scream and it used to embarrass me a bit growing up, but I soon realized your intention. All you ever wanted for me was to motivate me to succeed.

With your motivation and support, you empowered me to do what I love and achieve my own milestones. I will be forever grateful for allowing me to work towards my own goals and supporting me every step of the way.

Throughout my years in school, you pushed me to limits. This was definitely challenging at the time but once again, I soon realized your intentions were always to help me succeed.

I worked hard every day to get the grades I knew I was able to achieve. With your support, I was able to graduates with honours in both elementary school and high school.

I remember I was nervous yet excited to share with you that I had proposed to Brit. Especially seeing as you didn’t know I was going to do so. I wanted it to be a surprise for everyone and although you were surprised, I knew you were just as excited as we were.

Our special day happened so quickly but a moment I will never forget is our mother-son dance. I spent a lot of time picking a song and what better song than ‘You Raise Me Up’ by the one and only, Josh Groban. I remember when JG was your favourite and so much that it became your own wedding song. Now, I didn’t want to steal away from your own cherished moments by using the same song but rather honour your own milestones and impact on my life.

Thank you, Mom, for everything you have done for me. Words on their own cannot describe the gratefulness I have for you and acknowledge you for being a great mother. I have become a better person because of you, and that is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.

Love you always,

Dalton
