How to Find Balance in Your Life

Welcome back to The Couples Blog. I hope everyone is enjoying their week so far! Today, I wanted to dive into something I have struggled with. BALANCE. We live in a world where people brag about how busy they are (the busy culture) and all the things we never have time for. Life has changed for Dalton and I tremendously with us both working fulltime jobs now. I am constantly looking for a balance between working 9 hours a day, spending time with family and friends, exercising, the list goes on. It seems there are never enough hours in the day to get everything done. I am here to give you some strategies to make the most of the 24 hours you have.

Define Balance

We all know what balance means in the most generic sense but what does balance look like in your life? Is it having time to take on that side hustle? Is it having time to spend with your family? Or maybe it is getting 8 hours of sleep/night. The first step in finding balance in your life is defining what balance means to you and why you need it. For example, to me, balance is working outside the home, having quality time with my family, eating right and exercising. It may look different for you but it is the mixture of the things you have to do and the things that bring you joy.

Set Goals

It is difficult to find balance if you do not know the reason you need this balance in your life. Break down the things you want to accomplish this week, this month, or even this year. This will help you in prioritizing your time better to focus on the things that are important to you.

Stop Wasting Time

This is a big one for most people especially in this new world of TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. The hours just seem to fly by. Try being mindful of the amount of time you are spending on these apps just mindlessly scrolling. Think about the hours you could get back to do all the things “you never have time for”. Stop scrolling at the 20-minute mark. Instead of going for hours, you’ll be amazed at the time you get back in your day. 

Plan ahead/Build a Routine

I know I have beat this topic to death on this blog. However, you guys all know how much having a plan and routine has helped my mental state. It helps me to have a direction for my day so that I do not feel overwhelmed or anxious.

Understand your limits

This will inevitably look different for everyone. Some people can squeeze 10 tasks into their day. Where I am more of a 5-task kind of person. I know that if I have too much on my plate, I will get overwhelmed and something will fall to the wayside. Know yourself and exactly what you can handle.

Believe in yourself

A positive mindset can be just the thing you need to find the balance you are searching for in your life. I am a person who is notoriously hard on myself. So, I completely understand if this is not something that comes easily to you. However, working on believing in yourself every day and finding those moments to give yourself a pat on the back is what life is really all about. Positivity can move mountains, remember that!
